Amy Pleasant Untitled (Feet) 2015 ink and gouache on paper 30 x 22 inches
Alabamian artist Amy Pleasant is obsessed with archeology. Although different to Indiana Jones’ specific interest – it’s still pretty cool. Less behatted hunting of relics - more focused categorization and recording of an everyday.
Across painting, drawing and sculpture, Pleasant records body parts as they go about doing their normal things - walking, sitting, swiveling. Her style is minimal. The painted or drawn form just as important as the emptiness that surrounds it. Amy Pleasant focuses on “the mark” - the black mark, the black line – giving her works a very graphic quality.
I don't know, I'm makin' this up as I go. ( - Indiana Jones)
