Cole Sayer UNTITLED (RUNNING COUPLE 2) 2015 acrylic and vinyl paint on linen 72 x 48 inches
Cole Sayer is a self-proclaimed bad painter – a guy who mishandles the medium. He is also liar.
Sayer is just too well trained for a bad painter, having obtained an BFA from the Maryland Institute of Contemporary Art, and more recently an MFA from the Columbia University School of Art.
His works exist between the digital and the physical. In the best description I’ve read – "Sayer’s paintings content is squeezed between his subjectivity and the computer – pressed through a curatorial cheese press."
Cole Sayer’s work begins as an object, digitized into a 3D model (one he made, or one he stole on the interwebs). He renders out 2D images that he then executes in paint, and tattoos over with drawings. Actual to digital to actual.
