Lady and the Tramp made spaghetti romantic. Scott Reeder made it art. Happy Valentine's day!
Although his drivers license says he is 43, Scott Reeder is pretty similar to a 5-year-old boy. He loves to play with his food...
The Detroit based artist lays spaghetti on canvas then paints over it. He removes the pasta to reveal the image. When he repeats the process he creates works with a ghostly depth.
A critic for small local paper The New York Times, called his work late Modernist Conceptual. The all-over abstract compositions draw from a history beginning with the Ab-Ex painters. The wordplay of the text compositions are akin to the work of Ed Ruscha.
While both the works above are uncooked spaghetti, Reeder has also messed around with curly cooked pasta, and lentils. Yum!
