Ken Warneke, the final of my March art fair picks, is a bit older and definitely creepier than other Wowee artists.
I don't want to spoil this surreal, Mona-Lisa-esque, weirdo work by discussing the artist too much. ie: in learning more about him, I don't think Warneke is that great.
But, I do think this particular work is terrific. A strange, beautifully painted 'collage.' the mismatched facial features keep the viewer's (hopefully matched) eyes tracking over the surface, trying to piece it all together. The work may be the best thing Warneke has ever done.
Or if not best - it is certainly one of only things that you could leave on your wall when your grandmother comes to visit.
